Levitating Magnet Over A Spinning Disc

Description

A magnet on a plastic strip on top of a metal plate that spins using a DC motor.

Purpose

Show Lenz's law, particularly that the induced current opposes a change in flux.

Apparatus

120W Power Supply
Banana wires

Setup

Plug the apparatus into the power supply and slowly ramp up the power until the magnet levitates above the disc.
