Water Boil By Pressure Reduction

Description

Boil Water at 60 Degrees

Demonstrate concept of reducing boiling temperature of water by reducing pressure.

Equipment needed: Pressure gauge with valve combination Vacuum Pump Hot Plate Thermometer Beaker with Water High Vacuum Grease

Instructions: - Preheat water to 60 degrees Celsius on the hot plate - Hook up vacuum hose to the pipes as shown in the picture - Valves are closed when perpendicular to pipe and open when in the horizontal position - Place beaker with water on steel plate and put cover on top - Turn the pump on and wait until the water boils (around -25 on the pressure gauge) - To release the pressure open the end valve - You may need to apply High Vacuum Grease to the glass/steel seal Updated on: 06/12/13
