Variac
Description
A Variac.1) Can be used as a variable-voltage AC power supply. It has a transformer inside of it and works by using a wiper (think like potentiometers) to vary the ratio of the primary to secondary coil.
This Variac is used in the nail burner demo.
Notes
Not all devices will handle atypical input voltages well.
