Description
Macroscopic model of Rutherford's gold foil experiment
Purpose
To demonstrate particle scattering off a nucleus
Materials: - Plastic Apparatus (as shown in picture) - Ball bearings
Set-up: 1. Place appropriate target in hole. 2. Place ball bearings in receiver. 3. Lift and lower the metal guard to ensure only one row of balls are loaded. 4. Turn brass knob to release ball bearings. 5. To retrieve the balls, either turn apparatus upside down with lid on and shake, or use magnet wand.
