Magdeburg Hemispheres
Description
Demonstrates the power of atmospheric pressure Classes Used: Phys 101
Parts Needed: - Hemispheres - Vacuum pump
Purpose
Apparatus
Setup
1. While holding the hemispheres together, use the vacuum pump to evacuate the enclosure. 2. Turn the valve and disconnect the pump to lock the spheres. (PS. the valve is open when the haft is vertical, the valve is closed when the haft is horizontal) 3. The sphere can now hold up to 5 kg. 4. to unlock the spheres, turn the valve.
