The first ever recorded steam engine, invented almost two millennia ago!
change of state, energy conversion, expansion, Newton's third law
Useful Links: NASA provides a quaint description of how the Hero's engine is a form of propulsion here: http://history.msfc.nasa.gov/rocketry/02.html This is a video of the demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Drk43G9s4tU
Not currently functional. Bearing needs replacement?
A demonstration of torque and angular acceleration that is also an example of the conversion of heat to kinetic energy.
Hero's Engine, Bunsen burner (or a heat gun) and stand.
