Coefficient Of Friction 1
Description
Demonstrate coefficients of friction of different materials
Newton's First Law, Second Law, Friction
Purpose
1. To demonstrate the “angle of friction” for a block and a surface. 2. To show that frictional force is independent of surface area. 3. To demonstrate the range of values of the coefficient of friction.
Apparatus
- Adjustable incline - Blocks (wooden, aluminum and teflon coated)
Setup
1. Show that there is a minimum angle for slipping which does not depend on surface area. 2. Show variation in angles or speed for wooden block, aluminum block and block with teflon surface. Last Updated: Jan 13th, 2015
